The Hon Dr Horace Chang, Minister of National Security

A strong foundation of peace, safety and security, is critical to the development of a sustainable economy. Our investment in the development and expansion of JamaicaEye represents an important part of this secure foundation. This investment will utilize technology as a force multiplier for our police, expanding their reach and providing useful information for criminal investigations and overall surveillance.

The Ministry of National Security recognizes that improvements to the efficiency and capacity of the police force, is crucial in our pursuit of a safer Jamaica. JamaicaEye has been developed as an acknowledgement of the opportunities presented by technology, to assist the police in their responsiveness to critical incidents and their surveillance capabilities. Furthermore, the cameras and corresponding monitoring centers across the island, forms part of the modernization of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

This approach includes all of Jamaica. I encourage everyone with a camera facing a public space to provide JamaicaEye with your camera feed. Everyone must do their part to fight crime; together we are determined to curtail disruptive, criminal behaviour that undermines our social institutions, and creates a deficit of peace and order in our social environment.

The Jamaica envisioned according to our Vision 2030 development plan is “one which conforms to the rule of law, respects the rights of all, and coalesces around a set of shared values.” I am confident that JamaicaEye will help us get there.

HON. DR. HORACE CHANG, MP

Minister of National Security
